It's a good idea to take a look at the demographics of the neighborhood and city you are going to be living in. Appreciation and property value are sometimes very dependent upon the upkeep and professionalism of the community. Do some research; find out what the average family income is for the area. What is the community’s unemployment rate and poverty level? What is the community’s crime and safety statistics?

Don't be afraid to scope out your new neighbors. How they treat their property can directly affect your property value. Can you handle living next to the type of neighbor that lives on your new street?

Visiting local schools is important. If you have children or will have children in the future, make sure your new community is family oriented. In addition, check out the local parks and daycare centers.

Don't overlook enjoying your new area in your playtime. What recreational activities are provided in the area? Take a look at literature the community provides. Does this work with your lifestyle?

Many communities have unique features that make them different from others. One community may offer a feature that may be desirable to you; however the other features it offers may not be desirable. Make a list of pros and cons when choosing an area to live. Weigh the pros and cons of each area carefully, before making your decision.
